The back story

Scrawny is a 6 month old ragdoll who was born on the 26th of November 2008. He was the runt of the litter and was underweight, cross-eyed and had learning disabilities. For the first few weeks of his life we were not sure whether Scrawny would survive. In order to help him gain weight we started to half-hand rear him, and eventually he started to put on weight. By this time, I had decided to keep him despite the difficulties there would be in raising him due to his disabilities.

On the 11th of January this year, Scrawny terrified us by taking a 10 foot plunge from the 2nd storey of our house. He was rushed to the vets with his mother for company, and stayed there for 8 hours whilst he underwent various examinations and x-rays to determine if he had any broken bones or internal bleeding. Luckily, Scrawny had nothing more than a bloody nose and a few bruises. If he hadn't had luck on his side, Scrawny might not have survived another day.

Although caring for Scrawny hasn't always been easy, the rewards we have received are well worth it. Scrawny is one of the most caring, loving and affectionate cats that I have ever known. Even though he was the smallest kitten in the litter, he has now grown into a large, fluffy ragdoll. Whilst he still hasn't worked out that sleeping on the stairs is a bad idea, Scrawny has improved in leaps and bounds.

The Big W cat photo competition

When I saw that Big W were holding a cat photo competition, I knew that Scrawny had to be entered. He is well known among friends and family for being a rather photogenic cat, and I wanted to see if there was a possibility that he would be able to make the top 10, and perhaps win the money for a new scratching post (the last one had to be thrown away, due to him using it as a litter-box when he was a kitten {he had big problems with the litter box}). This is the photo of Scrawny that was entered:

It only took us about 10 minutes to get this photograph, as Scrawny loves to sleep on peoples' laps and doesn't have a problem with being asked to hold an Ipod. Sometimes I think he actually enjoys the experience. As you can see, Scrawny is a bit of a Simpsons fan.

Support Scrawny

Scrawny needs all the support he can get if he has even a chance of winning. To get 1st place he would need over 3oo votes! That is a 'bit' out of our league, but if Scrawny is able to get 700 votes, he will be able to snag a place on the scoreboard and hopefully a new scratching post to go with it.
